Day 473

Arowana babies! Found the pictures on the internet.
The power failure and loss of fish always makes me better at this hobby, the second pump was hooked to second circuit. This will keep fish alive in case of a short or or something to trip the breaker.

Day 472

Well...got a Christmas Day disaster when I got home. Light on 380gal. shorted out and tripped the breaker...no power to the tank. Lost two large Pacu, Lima shovelnose cat, and other catfish...Largest Pacu was upside down but breathing. Did a 50% water change, Pacu upside down for days...but swimming this morning. He's all beat up. Got thinking that one of my two pumps has to go on a another circuit, then at least one pump will always run. Minimizing fish loss.
Working on power set up and another water change today.

Day 465

This is Errin's 75gal., this was my old piranha tank...good job, tank looks great!

Sunday, December 18, 2011

Day 463

This is the inside of 388gal., emptied all the black sand that was left in tank from previous owner. This tank has old thick silicone inside, so I started to remove it. This silicone has turned white over the years, it is an inch or more thick from the corners. I will remove all old silicone and resilcone inside of tank...more pictures to come.

Day 453

Looks like old Flowerhorn in tank#2 has pop-eye...going to try and medicate. This fish has been sick for weeks, I'll keep treating.
Here is an aquarium gallon calculator in case you didn't know : L"xW"xH" then divide by 231

Day 451

Ok I'm good! I just needed a day to clean and sort fish stuff, feeling better about whole hobby. Did water changes, cleaned filters, washed gravel in buckets in garage. Mailed out an air pump to someone on line...down on their luck and money, needed one for their 55gal.
I cleaned sand out of 75gal., it's ready to be picked up. Fed all the fish and I'm good.

Day 450

Ok made it to day 450 of my blog! I lack some motivation in this hobby, I don't know if I'm overwhelmed or what. Think I will spend tomorrow working on tanks in basement, concentrate on some of the bigger projects. Get down and get my hands dirty...that usually works for me.

Sunday, December 4, 2011

Day 449

Piranha's moved to 135gal.

135gal.cichlids moved to 155gal. bowfront...filling.

Thursday, December 1, 2011

Day 446

I had some fish find new homes, I was getting overstocked. Some went to friends and some went to a school fish tank in Rob's class. Post a picture soon. Female Oscar went to Rob's house. 10 day ick treatment worked in tank#3 and #4. Old Flowerhorn in tank#2 had infection on his body and head, this tank temperature was raised to 86* and salt added. At day 5 the infection is looking better, I will hold the high temp. and salt for five more days then a 50% water change. Holiday break we(Rob and I) will work on his stand, needs to be rewelded, and build a double stand for my 220gal.&180gal. Rob is planning on taking "Big Boy Flowerhorn" home over the break.

Tuesday, November 22, 2011

Day 437

This is Day 5 of ick treatment, with high temp. and salt, ick med too. The fish are clear and show no signs of ick, I will still hold this high temp. for 4-5 more days to be sure. Then 50% water change.
Going to start too thin out my tanks, selling two double 55gal. setups, 75gal. in Dec., then another double 55gal. setup after the New Year. This will help me concentrate on having only large(+90gal.) tanks.
I'm also trying to covert Clown Knife from goldfish as main food to thawed frozen shrimp...we are at a stand still. If I can accomplish this he will be moved to the Arowana tank, and pair up with larger Clown Knife. This would free up one of my 90gal... All else good.

Saturday, November 19, 2011

Day 434

Two tanks doing ok...fish not so good, Parrot died overnight, Fader Flowerhorn in trouble...added ick meds to Flowerhorn tank...these are tanks #3 and #4...

Thursday, November 17, 2011

Day 432

Bad case of ick! Three tanks infected...bad. Bleached all hoses, nets, anything that can cross contaminate. The fish that are infected the worse are Flowerhorns, Parrots. Going to try and stop it at these three tanks. Temperature to 88*, salt added and ick medication given...going to hold this for 10 days then 50% water changes. One Kenyi died already.

Not mine, but a video I enjoy watching, clear and full of monsters! Enjoy

Day 426

Cleaned 155gal. bowfront with razor blade, and glass tops. Hard water build up, clear now. Sorted through boxes of items. Bleached all gravel and decorations, and rocks. Cleaned and bleached filters. Thinking about repainting stand, black.
Finished all water changes on my tanks #1-#10, and #20. Vacuumed gravel and cleaned filters. Shuffled some fish around, I will update list today.

Day 422

Got a call from a nice couple in Linden,Mi. They got my number from Ann At Petsmart, had a few fish to donate. Turns out they wanted to get rid of a fish tank, little did I know it would be this nice of a tank. I can't thank them enough, really makes my hobby better. This is a 155gal. bowfront tank, with black silicone, a stand, lights, a hood and all the accessories. The fish that were donated were two large Silver Dollars, three Kenyi, Jack Dempsey, Parrot, two large African cichlids, two Firemouth, and a large catfish. Sorry to inform that one Firemouth didn't make the trip,R.I.P., don't know why. All other fish adjusted well to the move. Thanks to my Dad for the help moving the tank. Thank you to Ann at Petsmart. Saturday, October 8, 2011

Day 392

Red Devil in his new home tank#20
30% water change in tank#22 and#20. Cleaned filter, vacuumed gravel, and 25% water change in tanks #7 and #8. Two Red Devil-Jaguar cichlid not getting along in tank#17. Moved bright orange, non-aggressive Red Devil in tank#7 to 135gal.(tank#20), which left a space open for one of Red Devil-Jaguar from tank#17. So far so good, Texas giving new Red Devil hard time in tank#20, so I netted him for about 3min. and left net sitting in tank. That took the edge off his aggression. Today shrimp eaten count for tank#22 is Oscar 6, Arowana 5, Clown Knife 3, And RTC 2.

Thursday, October 6, 2011

Day 390

These are pictures of my friend Errin's tank, held some fish for him. Now they are back in his hands. He had some bad luck with leaky tanks, but now he's back on track.
