Ok, years ago I saw a special on plants that grow in stone base, with fish living in a tank underneath, and I made this drawing. Fish waste in converted into nitrates, as a fertilizer, and pumped over a sponge, which acts as a prefilter. Water runs through the grow tray which is filled with stone, and is planted, then runs to a drain and back into the fish tank. This completes the cycle...you need bright light, forgot to draw that in.
Over the years I have made some drawings of tanks and filter set ups. I'm going to start posting them so I don't have all this loose paper laying around. Some are kinda funny, what was I thinking? This picture was drawn by the friend of the guy I bought the 388gal. from, as I was leaving. The tank has two 2.5" holes in the bottom. PVC has to be run this way, in the event of a power failure the tank will not overflow the sump. This one was very helpful to me.
I'm on a cleaning rampage! This is the start...tank,filters,gravel.water change, glass tops, armor all plastic and lights, inside glass, bleach decorations...etc. it's all clean. Three tanks today, so far...more to come. Divider lift in tank#6 didn't work out, Jaguar beat up Jack Dempsey, not too bad, divider replaced this morning.

This is tank #23, 135gal. donated to me by Tom. The fish I put in this tank are: 2 Pacu, Pleco, Parrot, and river Catfish, all from the 380gal.,to ease up the bioload. I also added 2 Oscars that I picked up from Bob the other day that were in tank #6, and Rob's Texas from tank #4. Seems like a good mix.
Arren's Blackbelt Vieja went to tank #4 from tank #1. His Green Terror went to tank #1 from tank #12.
I lifted the divider in tank #6, so the Jaguar and Dempsey are together, so far so good. Did 25% water change and vacuumed gravel in 380gal.

Sorry those last pictures were so bad, first one was cloudy from feeding, third was dirty glass, and second one was that I was just tired. Better pictures to follow. All new fish did good through the night, one Oscar got beat up in tank#6 by Dempsey, got them divided now. 380 gal. is now officially overstocked, I'm going to have to thin them out. Time to get going on 388gal. Water changes today!

Consumers Energy decided to do some maintenance starting at midnight last night. They sent a post card of this power outage, I disregarded it. My family woke me last night...no power. My daughter said she checked on facebook and the power would be out until 7am. I set up my generator and ran power to the tanks...too much for one 5000w generator. I spent the night in 3 hour shifts of rotating zones and gassing up generator. 7:20am the power came back on...for 40 min. then a brownout.***Always shutdown power to house...brownout can cause damage to all running motors! My daughters facebook said there was a fire engine at consumers building. 40 min. was just enough time to rehook everything up and put extension cords away. I waited an hour then took everything back out and hooked it up again. The power came back on at 1pm. Only one fatality, fantail goldfish. This fish was sick and couldn't take the stress. I'm beat, generator saved my ass again!

Cleaned tanks #9,10,11,12,14,15,16, water changes and filter cleanings. Took about 100gal. off tank #13 and replaced. My biggest Pleco died...16" in 380 gal., maybe old age? Other fish in tank are good. Got a call from guy that gave me broken 220 gal. he wants to sell stand and other aquarium equipment, going to take a look Mon. Or Wed. Filter on tank #7 burned out, replaced it with Rena(used), ok for now. All the rest is good.
